Daquien McNeil, a 6-foot-3 combo guard from Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, VT, is a big-time scorer and one of the elite prospects in the country from class of 2013. A native of Baltimore, he is reminiscent of a typical Baltimore guard with toughness and hardnosed in terms of his appearance and his game.
McNeil is a high major prospect currently ranked as our #9 in our latest Mid Atlantic Hoops Pre Summer Top 75 Prospects from Class of 2013. A gifted scorer, who is capable of playing either guards position. He will end up playing the point guard position down the road – that his likely best position to defend – but he’s such a talented combo guard.
We spoke with McNeil high school coach Jesse Bopp recently and asked about the schools that have been recruiting him up to date.
“Florida, Rutgers, Washington, VCU, Richmond, Texas, Illinois, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Providence, Virginia Tech are all the schools that have been recruiting him,” said Bopp.
McNeil has been on an unofficial visit to Richmond, and he recently visited VCU
I asked Bopp which schools have extended scholarship offers.
“Richmond have,” said Bopp. “VCU is close to offering. I’m pretty sure more will offer after July.”
McNeil has no time frame in mind for when he’d like to make his decision according to Bopp. He will take some visits in august and not even close to making any college decision.
McNeill will finish is summer evaluation season with Nike Baltimore Elite 16U &17U team at the Nike Peach Jam (North Augusta, SC) and Super Showcase (Orlando, FL)
