Dion Waiters, a 6-foot-4 rising
junior PG from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; is one of the elite
prospects in the Mid Atlantic Hoops Class of 2010. The Philadelphia
native is ready to continue elevating his game this summer. Waiters
just finished up his sophomore year at South Kent School (Kent, CT)
and have decided not to return to the school after the departure of
long time coach, Raphael Chillious.
Waiters is a
terrific talent, already committed to Syracuse University of the Big
East. He will be teaming up with a long time
friend and Villanova bound Maalik Wayns at
Roman
Catholic High school to formed one of the nation’s best backcourt.
Waiters is a Fairless competitor
with good arc on his jump shot, as well as terrific passing skills
with good scoring ability. He averaged 17ppg 7 assist as sophomore
on SKS prep squad last year.
I spoke to Waiter last week about
his decision to return back to Philadelphia for school.
He attended South Philadelphia High
School as freshman, where he was in-eligible before transferring to
South Kent School as a sophomore. While at SKS, Waiters was able to
improve his games, work on his academics and finally displayed is
highly talents skills outside of AAU circuit.
What position will he be paying was
the first question I asked Waiters.
“Definitely the point guard
position, we (Maalik and I) talked almost everyday, we are good
friends.” Waiters said, “Also is just two Big East bound guys on a
mission to win the championship, nothing else.”
He does have ball skills that
suggest that possibility. He’s made tremendous progress in the last
year and he’s still growing into his body. With continued
development and has he become more comfortable with the position, he
figures to be one of the top prospects nationally in the class with
a pro potential.
Waiters attended the Steve Nash Nike Skills Academy for point guard
last weekend (June 25-27) in Newark, NJ; and also plan to attend the
Lebron James Skills Academy in Akron, OH (July 5-7).
He will also be
attending Syracuse University Elite Camp.
Dion will
continue to play his AAU/Traveling ball with Reggie Evans’ Nike
Sponsor Team Finals.
